coexistapart's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- keeping the faith in a world of unfaithful I'm doing a whole lot of nothing online, so it's time to go read my book or go to bed. I was originally trying to do some Sunday night eBay, but I don't have the photography done, and it's not daylight to be able to do that, and not having the photos already done makes each listing tedious, so I'll just have to see what I can do in the morning. I need to get moving though, because already my window to get things posted, sold, and shipped is small because we go to Denver on May 22 and then I go back to Canada. Note to self: I should book my Toronto flight tomorrow. I really should be booking all of my flights soon, but my return to ELP will be a round-trip ticket so I can go to Israel at the end of July; and at this point I don't know if I will need the min or max number of days before I leave, say, July 29. In a bizarre sequence of events, it may be basically the "same" price to fly business class to Israel at the end of July. Basically what happened was I looked online, in the all the usual places, and a ONE-way flight (economy) from YYZ-TLV is $1800. This was kind of weird (although not completely shocking) given the sale price of $1090 RETURN I had seen for April. If I plug in July departure, January return, it only goes "down" to $1600. And while clearly that's a better value in terms of trip segments, I don't have a clue what I'm doing--let alone if I will be able/want/need to come back to North America in January, so it's also not going to make sense for me to spend $100 moving the ticket forward because that will add to the cost. Plus, at face value, what I need is a one-way ticket. It's $1800 for me to go economy, or $1799 to go Executive. Go figure. The other reason this might make more sense on several basic levels, beyond the meal service & personal pod to sleep on during the actual flight, is that I get four bags to check AND 125% status miles. Most airlines are doing a promotion now, to get you to spend money, whereby they lower their points threshold to make status if you fly by July 30. I would be very close to make the 20,000 if I go business class; and if you figure that I would have to pay the same amount of money (i.e. the difference between economy and business) for status flights, it may all be the same thing. Nothing new to report really; it's been a nice, slow weekend...though a fair bit has been accomplished. Stayed up late Friday watching "Torah!Torah!Torah!" Slept in Saturday until 10am, head a donut, then went back to sleep until 1pm; Big slept until 3pm. I went out to grab a coffee, drop off clothes at the charity bin, to the library, and Target and Old Navy to see what's available given that I'm basically going to have to start buying my back-to-school fall clothes in the next two months. I think I said this already, but I was really quite surprised at how much I was able to purge from my already trim closet; you could notice, almost immediately, the improvement when I went to do laundry and everything I washed and folded was something that I would pick to wear at first glance through my closet. I was also cheered that Old Navy had lots of bright, colourful summer options; I don't like their quality, or that their products are made in sweatshops in ages, but it was nice to see some options. Speaking of clothing, though, I am on a relatively crash (for me) diet and exercise regime until the end of May because I've put on a couple of inches around the thighs; no sense in rationalizing or not rationalizing. As long as I've been in the USA, I eat the same and walk less; I mean I rarely make it out of the house most days. I have needed to exercise at least 50% more to maintain (and it's taken me, oh, four months to realize this) while at the same time I need to vary my workout more. The damage is done, I just need to work on things BEFORE I get depressed going to buy clothing at the end of the month. Today I make pancakes and bacon for breakfast--I know--cleaned a little, went to the storage locker, International Delights, and for a walk late tonight. I did go to the gym; I only did 30 minutes, no weights, but I'm 3/4 so at least that's a start. I'm roasting a shoulder all day tomorrow, so here's to hoping I'm up early. Yesterday is already gone, and tomorrow is not here yet. 10:44 p.m. - 2009-05-03 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
