I'm very excited to be here, but I'm on the crackberry, and it's late here (I'm listening to Delilah!) So I'm going to have to try to be concise. We stayed in El Paso last night, at the Marriott right next to the airport. To me it doesn't make much difference, you have to get up early either way, and even with AAA you are looking at 120/night with taxes...but it's Big's big vacation this year, so I wasn't about to interfere. Flew AA (+ DFW; no problems there. We had real food in the terminal during the layover, but I was not too concerned about amassing enough of the right food for the flight because it was 8.5 hours to Honolulu--that warrants meal service, plus a snack. But alas, I meglected to realize that Hawai'I is still, technically, domestic so no food. Oh well. It's not like I would ever CHOOSE to fly AA myself (this was, literally, just 20/person because of points) so it only makes to accept it and move on. Arrived in Oahu; it reminds me of (what little I saw) of Puerto Rico. It's not some hidden paradise; it's a working class town like anywhere else. The hotel has many nice things going for it, generally, but it's also not the newest JW (we've ever stayed at) so I could certainly see some people getting their panties tied up in a knot if they're spending 400/night. As it is though, the resort seems mostly empty, and we're only paying a 50 upgrade fee. I will be interested to see where the week goes, because as I said there are certainly some very nice things, like the lagoon, open-air dining spaces, are room--while by no means out of this world--is definitely lovely. We have a nice balcony, sitting area, and the requisite his-her vanity, spa tub. There's a gym, a gorgeous spa, and other freebies, even before we set out to do half of the things we want to see: Pearl Harbour, Hawaiian food, and maybe some nice photo ops. 9:19 PM - 04-21-2009 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
