Hawai'i tomorrow!

March-April has really been bad for entry writing, but it's been fairly good for trying to get my life back on track. So I'm going to be grateful that there's been actual progress, and not be stupid-dumb about the fact that I supposedly haven't documented it. Maybe this is God's way of saying that I need to stop focusing on the small stuff, gloss over the small decisions and focus on the life path instead.

Good news. We are off to Hawai'i tomorrow morning. Who knew I could be this excited? We've put off this exact schedule trip twice already (free flights with British Airways points, 8 free nights with Marriott) because we were stressed or rundown. Pretty much as soon as I stepped off the plane in El Paso last Wednesday I was struck with the flu, which came along with my baby cousin vomiting all over me on Tuesday; none-the-less, 8-10 lbs of only-fluids later, and I am actually in reasonably good condition for the horrific 8 hour flight that's going to take place tomorrow.

Anthony appears to have fixed my camera last week--cross your fingers I do *believe* that he found a way to lock the mirror mechanism and we puffed all of the dusty away--so I'm mostly excited for beautiful seaside pictures, trying some nice Hawaiian food (I know this will sound dumb, but I really hadnt' thought of it as so varied or ethnic) and just generally relaxing. I've got a couple of books and rag mags to read, but nothing too exciting such that the focus of our week will lying by the beach and being dumb. I know Big is quite looking forward to see the various Pearl Harbour-related sites; I would like to drive around the North Shore, visit some shrimp trucks, the Dole plantation (and cannery), Diamonhead crater, and--of course--Wakikiki, though it promises to be dumb.

We're staying at the JW resort near Kokolei. It's about a half hour West of Honolulu. I'm told it's isolated, and annoying because it's just resort food, and there's the potential that this gigantic Disney mega resort that they're building next door will ruin everything, but we're staying 8 nights for free. If the resort is even a little bit empty, we should get a nice upgrade--possible a suite or large room with ocean-view balcony. There's a pool and various little shark netted lagoons. There will be fruity drinks with umbrellas and a spa. And a gym. And we're renting a car as one of our only expenses (other than food) so it promises to be a good time. I'm actually quite excited.

With the prospect of going to Israel now in August on the horizon, when we get back next week I really need to get moving on some of my different projects. I finished editing my blog for 2005; now that only leaves 2006, 2007, and 2008. HA! On the bright side, I'm thinking of unlocking--but keeping various pseudonyms--for when I go to Israel. I'm not sure I'm prepared to go the public blog route all over again, especially given I should be busy with school and I'm not looking to alienate people, even though there might be a lot of interest in what I'm doing.

I sit down thinking I have a lot to say, but now just does not feel like the time.
