coexistapart's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- practice Today was stupidly productive. I was up late (3am) last night working on various projects and emails. Then I woke up this morning and finished some longer commitments before packaging up some eBay items, wrapping Big's Christmas presents (that I already bought), and sorting through gifts for various friends in Toronto and to ship around. Given that Anthony's mother died, I'm going to go ahead and "just" get him the Audacity of Hope because he is a big Obama fan. I've got a little Bath & Body works set for the gf, and a set of lamb-shaped slippers for Kimberley. I already sent the Joy of Cooking daily cookbook to Stephanie, along with a much belate wedding photo album that I somehow just couldn't manage to get out before I left. However, now that she and Amy ringleadered the girls buying me the pink cupcake charm from Tiffany's ($195) I will be using the extra body wash I got at Bath & Body works as bumper gifts. The economy really IS bad; we got a $10 off card, so I went in thinking I'd save some money on the slippers. Turns out they were already 30% reduced so I was under the $30 minimum. So I spent $18 doing that buy 3, get 2 free bit. Then subtract the $10 I had off, add it to the $25, and it was a whole lot of bath products for under $50. I guess I will now be sending those to Birdie, and Lou, and Guoguo. I have several other people I'm working on. There's two individuals I want to give this photography book to, both who have improved tremendously this year, but one I'm not so keen on just because she's been annoying me lately. Anna called me, drunk I hope, and was singing "Happy Birthday" into my voicemail last week. I just hit "save" without really listening to it. It was mortifying and embarassing at the same time. Big got me one of those hydroponic herb gardens from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. When I unwrapped the box, I kind of thought "oh, thanks" but watching it grow during the day today is so neat. The light stays on for 16 hours of "daytime" and watercirculates constantly. Several of the herbs have sprouted and pushed through in under 2 days! It's crazy. It gives me a new appreciated for that hydroponic Boston lettuce you see all the time, in stores. I'm hoping I can eventually gerry-rig the thing to do vegetables that the company does not produce seeds for, something like zucchini or eggplant. Once you pay the initial equipment investment, it really does take care of itself. The roses on my desk are still gorgeous. They're this flamingo pink that just looks so ernest, I love them dearly. Almost as much as the blood red ones I normally get. 7:53 p.m. - 2008-12-08 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
