coexistapart's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- chilly chilly I haven't written an entry in ages, so I can't very well complain that OTHER PEOPLE ARE NOT WRITING! Ahem. So I got back to LC on Friday. Saturday morning Big made me breakfast in bed and then we headed off to the John McCain rally in Mesilla. They would not let me take in my "Canada hearts McCain" sign, nor chairs or anything else that could not be x-rayed. Secret Service manned a tent of security; Big was allowed to keep his mini cooler because he had all of these veteran stickers on, although they made him throw away the Jones Soda bottles. This was not such a bad thing as he accidentally grabbed OBAMA bottles from the Presidential campaign issue. Spoon came, along with this guy I have heard about from work many times (Josh) as well as Rai, who I met at Big's boss' dinner gathering at Leo's three weeks ago. Rai brought his Puerto Rican girlfriend and her three kids; I'm not altogether too sure why he spends so much money on two households--frankly, she's not much to look at--but I don't have to understand that kind of thing. The rally was good. It was worth the 3-4 hours spent out in the broiling sun, waiting. Big was enthralled, of course. I thought it was relevant and timely. McCain looked exhausted, and sadly Cindy could not be found. The crowd was manageable so McCain shook hands for quite some time; I moved around a couple of times and got some great pictures considering that I didn't wear heels. He also ended up shaking hands with the women on either side of me. After that we went to a housewarming party in El Paso with more of Big's coworkers; the man, Rob, who was hosting it has four Purple Hearts. Do you know how insane that is? You meet him and he's very nice, they have a cute little girl, but you can also see immediately this lean, mean killing machine. I mean the guy doesn't look a day over 20 and he's just as old as Big. His wife is this nice, big loud blonde girl; they are well matched, I just wasn't too sure what to talk about with her, so I played with their little girl McKaila. Spoon and his girlfriend eventually showed up (long story there) and she was just a sourpuss. She's always such a sourpuss it seems. And that's fine, if that's her temperament or a major factor in why they're always on the outs, but it just reflects badly on HER when she acts like that...in public. Sunday Big and I were supposed to drive up to Hatch, NM for BBQ and to buy more chile wreaths, but Spoon came up to me and said "We're going for brunch, are you still going to come?" The way my mind works, my social needle always ends up going back to the original plan, where possible, so I wasn't too worried about the BBQ, but that led to miscommunication on Sunday that made Big really, really upset. It was Spoon who had bailed on brunch initially, so in that instance Big would prefer not to go on principle, where as I am just flexible and happy to do activities with other people, where possible. Aside from a difficult Monday, the week has been good. I probably should have done more eBay, and more editing of my Personal Statement (due tomorrow), but today is still young and I have high hopes that I will end this week on top. The list of household things I have to do today is not long: carve pumpkin, clean bathroom, sewing, etc. Maybe I will actually get to read a book today or scrapbook. Imagine that! I sound lame. Sorry. 8:10 a.m. - 2008-10-30 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
